On Nov. 17, the 2022 Intelligent New Energy Vehicle Safety Development Forum was held online with the theme of safe and smart travel and linkage with the future.

On the forum, Zhu Xichan, a professor of Tongji University, director of the Institute of Automobile Safety, and a national automobile safety expert, delivered a keynote speech on the reconstruction of the automobile industry from the perspective of digital economy.

Zhu Xichan said that China's automobile industry is facing three major problems, including large but not strong, overcapacity and falling profits. As a large automobile country, the three core technologies engine, gearbox and electronic control of traditional automobiles have never been completely in their own hands.

"Now, the automobile industry has seen electrification, networking, intelligence and sharing. For the automobile industry, this is a new change, a once-in-a-century wind tunnel." Zhu Xichan said, "Facing the wind tunnel, the energy structure of automobile industry has become diversified. The automobile power system and the automobile market has presented a thriving scene."

Behind the thriving scene is the "double runaway" of new energy trams. Zhu Xichan said that the fire accidents caused by the "thermal runaway" of new energy vehicles and the accidental acceleration accidents caused by the "sudden runaway" of new energy vehicles have become the pain points facing the development of the new energy vehicle industry. How can we balance the contradiction between "innovation" and "security risk" in technological innovation? Zhu Xichan believed that we can not save money in hardware, functional safety must be done carefully, and we should run ahead of public opinion, build a user data loop, and find problems early. To this end, Zhu Xichan proposed three elements of risk control, including hardware redundancy, software OTA, and closed-loop user data. In addition, the government should also carry out dual cycle supervision integrating certification management and sandbox supervision.

Zhu Xichan also discussed the degree of automobile intelligence from the perspective of driving. He introduced the primary intelligence, intermediate intelligence and advanced intelligence. Zhu Xichan said that the intelligence of automatic driving at each level is very different. At present, automatic driving has not become the core selling point of passenger cars.

Finally, Zhu Xichan said that the old value system of the automobile industry is collapsing, and the new value system around the "future car" is being rebuilt. To realize the dream of moving from a big automobile country to a powerful automobile country, core technologies must be autonomous and controllable.
